My first day on Google Plus (G+) went something like this:
I did find a couple things to like about it. But can I afford to partition my already fractalyzed* brain into yet more subdivisions?
*Could be a real word.
I'm liking it. Is seems to be a sort of genius cross between facebook and twitter, but I can't tell for sure how useful it will be until it grows a little more.
I don't have time for any more social media...but that hasn't stopped me yet!
Yeah I am still lost too, but we had a cute little G-string going! LOL! At least we are all inviting each other right now. I barely have time for it either but I decided to procrastinate at work and play on it today.
I am so not ready to throw any other social media into my life though. We'll see how this goes!
At this point I'd have to side with Suzanne - seeing the same content in 3 places as opposed to just the 2 I currently see it, unless you count my blog roll, then 4 places to see all the same stuff, instead of 3...but regardless...I've not jumped on board with it, kinda waiting to see if it goes the way of MySpace or replaces Twitter & Facebook.
I liked this post and shared it with my friends, but then I thought it so funny that I gave it a +1 that only the select few saw so I RTed it to the rest of the world. :)
I just opened my G+ an hour ago. So far, not much to see. I'm still in the dark, just like you, looking for the on switch to enter into the features. And the other problem is that there are so few known people in there at the moment, I can't use the group features.
I'll just have to wait to see if I can do something more in it, and get even more fractalyzed, like you say. Meanwhile, you've got another upvote here =)
I spent months testing Google's last next best thing to never have it really take off and just fade away one day. I am not impressed with G+ so far. We will see what happens.
I like your post considerably better than mine, but then I always do!
I'm exhausted. I'm waiting until the newness wears off and things calm down. I can't play this "circle" game (my own blog post on G+) right now. Besides, I'm not missing anything - the same content is being posted everywhere. *sigh*
I just joined this past weekend myself and your post today pretty well sums up where I am (at this point!) I was like that when I first joined Facebook too but I think Google+ might be a little more confusing. I am like Alison above me "over socialmedialized!!!"
The insulting part of G+ is they tell you up front you better play along and be public or they will cut you off. At least FB still lets you have private account, I give them the first round for that. And G+ seems complicated. Second round to FB. And this is from someone who isn't FB's biggest fan. I seem to be a Twitter kind of gal.
I'm on Google+ but I'm not sure I'll stick with it. My main problem is that my real name e-mail address got associated with my Google+ account and I can't switch it to my TechyDad one. I like keeping semi-anonymous online but that can't happen if my real name is revealed every time I promote my Google+ activities.
TechyDad - Yup, I hear ya! I was invited on my different email addresses but only opened my account on my Gmail just for that reason. Can you close your G+ account and reopen?
I think its mysteriousness and exclusiveness is what is grabbing everyone's attention. But once they're invited, the hype sort of disappears. I have a love-hate relationship with the concept of the "circles". I like that I can choose who I feel comfortable with seeing certain content on my page, but I'm hesitant about placing anyone in the acquaintance circle. I don't want to offend anyone.
Yeah, but there's some serious privacy concerns with Google+. This is making the rounds. It's pretty bad, privacy-wise: http://facecrooks.com/Safety-Center/Internet-Safety-Privacy/On-Privacy-Facebook-vs.-Google.html
Got on G+ plus early on. Love the clean design and being able to edit my comments! But, right now there's so much noise it makes me feel like I'm going crazy! ;)
Also think Circles are are too much work right now. I've put in time because I have a lot of friends using it & I love this kind of stuff. But, as Zuckerburg said, "95% of Facebook users are passive users..." people on Facebook didn't want to make lists which is why the Groups feature was born (and is pretty popular).
I think G+ needed to incorporate our Interest Graph (groups) into circles. When they do I may like G+ a whole lot more.
I got pulled in through a loophole early on by another geeky friend of mine and I LOVE it. I'm not a passive user at all. I post probably more than I should. Feel free to add me to your circles if you want.

You captured the point exactly, run run run as fast as you can to get their then stand around.
ReplyDeleteFor what it is, G+ is good. Remember, it is still in its infancy. FB is years old, as is Twitter. Give google time, it will greatly improve.
Eh, so I can now see the same content in three different places?
ReplyDeleteSuzanne
I am... not impressed.
ReplyDeleteBut then again, I said the same about Facebook and Twitter. Maybe it takes some warming up?
Maybe we just need more people to interact with?
And I want +1's raining on me. Maybe I should fart more often?
My Own Private Idaho
I'm there. I still don't know what I think of it and this is a brilliant cartoon version of what it feels like so far.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm maxed out!! I haven't even looked at it yet and I probably won't. I'd rather shower. :)

ReplyDeleteAgree with Stephi
ReplyDeleteI just got on, and am feeling a little like Larry King on his own show - Clueless. :)
ReplyDeleteI signed up today and feel like your cartoon. What now????LMAO!

Nina - I admit....a shower would be good.
ReplyDeleteNathan - StumbleUpon is still the ruler of all things trafficky.
ReplyDeleteUmmm...that's pretty much what I experienced, only some of 'em in the dark hadn't showered either.... :P
ReplyDeleteI can't make heads or tails of it yet, but what you've illustrated here was and is exactly my flow through it.
ReplyDeleteWe shall see...
Great cartoon! We'll see how it goes.
ReplyDeleteI think it has some potential. I like the about me with the map you can show where ya lived. Not to active though, just posted a video :P
ReplyDeleteI'm there.
ReplyDelete#yawn
YOu are brilliant! My favorite part? "Okay. Who farted?" Bwhahahaahaha...
ReplyDeleteBrermatt - What?!? You mean you're not interested in reading what I had for breakfast?? LOL
ReplyDeleteI am loving it!

ReplyDeleteI've been finding interesting women to 'circle' in Google+ -- http://www.womenofgplus.com come on by and find new people to follow & chat with!
ReplyDeleteI love Google+, but it's too much like facebook... I hate facebook.
ReplyDeleteI like your post considerably better than mine, but then I always do!

I'm on Google+ and thus far I am not a fan. Google has made sure to tell everyone it's in the "beginning stages" so we'll see.
ReplyDeleteI'm on it but I'm unsure as to what to do with it for now....I'm over socialmedialized (totally a word).
ReplyDeleteI just joined this past weekend myself and your post today pretty well sums up where I am (at this point!) I was like that when I first joined Facebook too but I think Google+ might be a little more confusing. I am like Alison above me "over socialmedialized!!!"

ReplyDeleteSo... Can I +1 this? ;)
ReplyDeleteHahaha...EXACTLY!

ReplyDeleteI am wondering too - will it be relevant or fade away....

ReplyDeleteNot sure if I want to stay on G+ - looks like a great idea as a social network clien though. Can I tweet from it :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, but there's some serious privacy concerns with Google+. This is making the rounds. It's pretty bad, privacy-wise:

I'd +1 you. Again and again.
ReplyDeleteWow. That reads a bit kinky.
Score.
:)
PS. g+ aint so bad....
I don't understand Google+ but I'm there. I hate Facebook, so there's that.
ReplyDeletei started yesterday...found you today
ReplyDeleteit looks like facebook for bloggers and businesses, btu I may be wrong. I like being able to share music and videos...
and you're there!

BTW, gotta share this post on G+!! :)
