Inspiration.

This is what it's like to be me.

Where do ideas come from? Are some people more likely to get them than others? Do you agree there's a difference between inspiration and creativity? I wonder what motivates someone to turn an idea into reality...questions that need answers!

I'm struck by new ideas all the time. I want to do them ALL. And I'm determined to try!

What inspires you?

  1. Music and my kids inspire me as do books and pictures.

  2. The light bulb startled me. :) So what kind of coffee was that? ;)

  3. Jack - yeah, my kids are high on the list too. And nearly as shocking.

    Amber - EXACTLY. Nuclear coffee.

  4. I was not expecting that. I need some of that nuclear coffee, because that's about what I need to get me fully alert prior to 10 am.
I love it when something I read somewhere else gets me to think so deeply about something that it encourages me to take the topic for a spin on my blog.

YOU inspire/d me. You totally needed to be gangsterized. That was a fun exercise of creativity, even though I was limited within the rudimentary confines of MS Paint and PowerPoint.

LOVE the new header. On my old blog, I had a Superwoman, kick-butt type of theme going for a long while, didn't I, Kristin? Your header reminds me of that, except of course yours is a LOT more fun and has that JC-Swagger.

I need to get my name down on that I Draw You list before hordes of JC fans go all world's biggest fan and write their names down.

Because there can only be one and she is me. *wink*

  5. I find it's typically not the initial ideas that are so hard. It's the sitting still and doing the persistent, unglamorous, pain-in-the-butt labor required to turn these dreams into reality.

  6. Inspiration strikes me like that all the time. My only problem is when inspiration strikes for one project while I'm mid-way through another project. The temptation is to drop the one I'm working on and work on the new one. I know, if I do that, though, I'll get another burst of inspiration and start a third project before any of the first two are done.

I'm in that boat right now with two Twitter apps I want to code. One is very nearly ready for beta launch and one is in the lightning-bolt-just-hit stage. MUST. IGNORE. SHINY. NEW. IDEA!!!

  7. Love this!! Tough question. I always have wonderful ideas in the shower... probably because it's the one place I'm truly alone and can THINK. Yeah, thinking is a huge part of the answer. ;)

  8. Like you, I just never know when or where it's gonna strike. Usually not that dramatic though...thankfully.

  9. JW - I got something in my eye....*sniff*

  10. Cara - I think you're referring to the 'perspiration' bit: the actual execution of the idea. But what fuels it? What motivates that effort...The Huz suggested it might be curiosity.

  11. TechyDad - this is my problem too. Managing my ideas is like having a huge brood of toddlers. They're all screaming for my attention.

  12. Karen - mine usually hit me in the bathtub, when I'm supposed to be relaxing. BAM!

  13. Here's what I think.

INSPIRATION usually comes from something we like.It is something that shakes our feelings and help us recognize blue from red, or the good from the bad, or the awesome from the epic-failure. Naturally, we as humans unconsciously underestimate things around us. On a daily basis, we don't even recognize the fact that we walk on a large solid rock. We don't, we are more concern of things the society has shaped us to think about. Daily hot gossips, Justin Beiber's bacon-briefs,Shakey's Mojos, Unpaid bills, Getting late for work, Well planned hot sex on sauna later etc.etc.

INSPIRATION I believe, in a way, also help us recognize, the smallest, totally random, unwanted crap can be one of the best existing piece that help us to be human again. Simply because they touch our human emotions whether positive or negative. That I think is the reason why we love the idea of LOVE. It's based on human emotion.

On the other hand, CREATIVITY is the process undertaken with the help of inspiration. It's a chain, not a contradiction to influence. Creation requires influence according to a certain someone, and from experience as an artist, I strongly believe it too. But CREATIVITY does not entirely rely on inspiration. It just needs existing materials that will help build that certain idea to be able to transform the old to something new.

From experience, artists don't work based on inspiration like what nearly everyone else I know think of. There's no magic to it. In the end, it's just work. INSPIRATION is just a bonus. If you play Mario, it's just like the power-up that speeds up Mario rushing towards the goal, ramming everyone on sight without even thinking.
